From a humble beginning making shoes from his mother's kitchen, Adolf “Adi” Dassler started a factory of sport shoes with his brother. His shoes gained publicity when Jesse Owens wore spikes designed by Adi in the 1936 Summer Olympics. After the war, Adolf formed his own company calling it Adidas in 1949.
