Best Buy's History
Best Buy originally began as Sound of Music, an electronics store that specialized in selling high fidelity stereos in Minnesota. In 1983 Sound of Music was renamed Best Buy and steadily grew into the electronics retail giant we know today after going public in 1987.
Best Buy's Values
Best Buy espouses a “pursuit of happiness” philosophy that begins with creating a happy workplace for employees, which in turn leads to happy customers. Through its charity organization, Best Buy works to deliver under-served youth opportunities by giving them access to technology.
What makes Best Buy unique?
Best Buy’s annual tornado sale came into existence after a tornado hit its parent company’s store and tore the roof off, so making the best of the situation, founder Richard Schulze had a “tornado sale” to sell off damaged and excess stock.
