Cheap Tickets' History
CheapTickets originally started out as a newspaper classifieds ad in 1986, founded by Michael and Sandra Hartley of Honolulu, Hawaii. Mid Pacific Air, a local airline, gave 3,000 tickets to Regency Media, a local advertising agency, in return for services rendered. Hartley was an employee at Regency Media at the time, and when they closed their Honolulu branch, he advertised the tickets in the local newspaper and they were sold out in two weeks. The Hartley’s learned that they could purchase airline tickets directly from airlines at incredibly low rates under certain circumstances, and this lead to the launching of their CheapTickets network. What began as a newspaper add quickly became a call center that offered services not only in Hawaii, but also in Colorado, California and Florida. The company was purchased by Cendant in 2000 and later by Orbitz in 2006, where it was successfully drawn into the Orbitz online world.
Cheap Tickets' Values
The purpose of CheapTickets.com, now a subsidiary of Orbitz.com, is to create a clear, easy-to-use online interface where people can enter their travel information a single time and be presented with several different travel options rather than having to go to each individual airline’s website and doing a separate search on each. CheapTickets strives to provide excellent customer service not only between consumers and airlines, but with hotels and rental car companies as well, giving their customers a full array of options to meet all their travel needs.
