Crate & Barrel's History
A company founded in 1962 in Chicago, Illinois, by honeymooners Gordon and Carole Segal. After being inspired by the variety and convenience of products available in Europe for newlyweds to set up a home, it has now become a leading houseware and furniture store with over 170 outlets in the USA. The store became international in 2008 by opening up its first outlet outside of USA in Toronto and then opened up stores in places including Montreal, Vancouver, Dubai, Singapore etc. It also has two subsidiary chains - CB2 to address home furnishing needs for young adults and The Land of Nod for children.
Crate & Barrel's Values
With an employee base of approximately 5200 employees, this store and its management thrives on the philosophy of encouraging a homely environment for its employees as well as connecting with the customer directly to understand his needs.
What makes Crate & Barrel's unique?
This company was the pioneer in the 'vignette' style of displaying furniture in its stores. The décor and furniture is placed in a way such that you can visualize how each item will look clubbed with the other items and this may even tempt you to buy the complete range.
