Skin care brand Philosophy was founded in 1966 by Cristina Carlino, a cosmetic industry visionary who developed the medical skin care company ‘Biomedic’. Carlino built Philosophy into an award-winning brand that has hundreds of thousands of loyal fans who love the products as much as its often clever and quirky products with names like Miracle Worker and Hope in a Jar. The company was acquired by Coty Inc. from The Carlyle Group in 2010 for an undisclosed sale price with the new owner helping the brand further diversity, grow its prestige division, and expand Philosophy to go on the global level by starting in Asia into countries like Japan, China, and Korea. In the U.S., Philosophy continues to expand its retail relationships and as of this time, it’s available at QVC, Ulta, Sephora, Nordstrom, and Macy’s.
Carlino’s main goal for building Philosophy was to bridge the gap between what was offered in doctor’s offices and retail stores so that all women can personally access the best and the leading skin care technologies available. Philosophy seeks to redefine beauty under the belief that every single person is beautiful and to be a supermodel, one has to be a super person. The company celebrates the idea that there is just one you in this world and that you should do what it takes to honor your existence. Everyone working at Philosophy believes that the best cosmetic is great looking skin, that fragrance must make a women smell and feel good, and that it’s better to give than to receive that’s why they continue doing their best to provide their customers with the best products to help them live better lives. Philosophy promises its customers that it will bring them the most remarkable products that will inspire them to live better lives by being better to themselves as it believes in inspiring beauty on the surface and within the soul.
