Rue 21's History
The name of this company was compiled from the fact that “rue” is translated from France to mean “street” and the number 21 was incorporated into the name because that is the age that everyone desires to be due to the fact that 21 represents an age of freedom and unlimited potential.
The brick and mortar locations, as well as the online stores, are designed for individuals that are looking for a trendy, yet modern style at affordable prices.
Some of the brands included with Rue21 are tarea (which is sleep and yoga wear for young girls); Ruebeate which is a line of fragrances and skin care; Rue21 etc! is a line of accessories and shoe for girls; and the latest line is ruebleu Swimwear. The line of boys wear is expanding and is known as rue GUY.
There are more than 1,100 locations in 48 states and the main office is located in Pittsburgh, PA, USA.

Rue21 wants to make a positive impact on the community. They partner with “A Glimmer of Hope” foundation and in 2013, they raised more than 50 thousand dollars for this charity.
In addition, Rue21 is a proud supporter of the Toys for Tots Program that is sponsored by the U.S. Marine Corp. They help to collect new toys for underprivileged children in their community.
They also make financial contributions to the National Wildlife Association and conduct food drives to keep the food bank in the Pittsburgh area full for those in need.
Beverly’s Birthdays is another great charity organization that is supported by Rue21 and they organize birthday celebrations for young people that are living in shelters.
