Vans is a shoe manufacturer based in Southern California which is on a mission to make its consumers happy, especially the younger people, with the way they look with fresh Vans on their feet. The company was founded by Paul Van Doren in 1966. He decided to leave school at a very young age in order to hang around race courses in Massachussetts and in attempt to put him back on the right track, his mother forced him work at the Randy’s Shoe factory with her where Van Doren began by sweeping the floors. After 20 years of being employed in the factory, Van Doren was able to work his way up the corporate ladder and became the company’s Executive Vice President making Randy’s the third biggest shoe manufacturer in the U.S. Later on, he decided to leave Randy’s and he started his own company which was named Vans. The hardworking factory boy who had humble beginnings was indeed able to pull himself up and built an internationally known, successful shoe company.
While the movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High put the brand on the map, the company owes its great reputation and extreme popularity to the fashion sense of extreme sports enthusiasts who didn’t exist back then. Vans designs and markets footwear and apparel for casual and extreme sports use with the merchandise sold in the U.S. by national chain stores as well as surfing, skating and specialty shops in North America, Asia and Europe. Vans footwear, accessories and apparel are designed to be durable, stylish and comfortable which are traits that its customers demand. The company’s sponsored athletes are among the most colorful and talented personalities in sports endorsing the brand and helping design the products offering a bond with consumers that is made stronger by the credibility of the athletes and the authenticity of the Vans brand. As part of its marketing strategy, the company also backs bands through music festivals.
