It all began in a Boston nursery, but the life that would spring forth from the small home office was anything but what one would expect. In 2002, Niraj Shah and Steve Conine founded Wayfair to bring furniture sales to the Internet. Within four short years, the company was earning $100 million. The company has gone through many name changes, but Wayfair stuck in 2011 and the company continues to operate dozens of online home furnishing stores.
Wayfair believes strongly in the merits of social responsibility. The company believes good companies and strong communities are 'inextricably' linked, which means companies need to do their part to look after their communities. Wayfair does this by volunteering time with Habitat for Humanity and other charities.
What makes Wayfair's unique?
Wayfair really puts its money where its mouth is when promoting community-building events. In response to Hurricane Sandy, the company donated $50,000 worth of home goods to affected families.
