About Turkish Airlines
The Ministry of National Defense established Turkish Airlines in 1933 with just five small aircrafts that came under jurisdiction of Ministry of Public Works in 1935. Commercial flights to international destinations commenced in 1947. With an expanding fleet, it joined the 20-member Star Alliance in 2008. The airline is a publicly-traded entity operating flights to 261 worldwide destinations as of February 2015.
