5 Frugal Ways to Celebrate New Year's Eve With Your Date

Going out on New Year's doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg. Here are 5 tips for how to have an amazing time with your date without breaking the bank.

My husband and I started dating when we were 16 years old. We have been together every single New Year’s Eve. If we don’t have a chance to do anything else on that night, we are going to ring in the New Year’s by kissing.

There have been a lot of different things we have done to celebrate the time with one another. Here are a few frugal ways we have enjoyed the night together.

1. Find a Free Local Event

If you are in an area that shoots off fireworks on this night, then consider taking the time to go see the show. Typically, this is a free event that you can take advantage of. Other areas may have parades that you can attend.

Take a look around and find something in your area that you can attend that night. I’ve really enjoyed watching fireworks to celebrate the holiday.

2. Go to a Friend’s House

Many years, my husband and I have spent the holiday at a friend’s house for a night of fun. We would bring over board games or other forms of entertainment to spend time with them while we waited to ring in the New Years.

3. Host a Potluck Get Together

Other times, we have invited people over to our own house and asked them to bring some snacks to share. This has allowed us to get together with others without breaking out budget. The weeks following Christmas can be more difficult to find extra money.

4. Drink Sparkling Cider and Watch The Ball Drop

After we had children, it made it more difficult to go out and do anything special on New Year’s Eve. We have always been willing to invite others over, but when all of your friends have young children, that can make it tough.

For the last few years, we have spent time hanging out with one another. We might play a few games together or watch a movie. When it is a few minutes before midnight, we cut on the television and get ready to watch the ball drop.

5. Reminisce About the Past Year

No matter what your budget, conversation is the best part of celebrating the end of the year. This is a time when you and your date can remember the things you have gone through. Not only that, you can think of the year to come.

I know that with each year, my husband and I have taken the time to think through what we experienced. Some years, we have booted out the door and others we have cherished. Either way, the next day we know that something new and exciting is going to take place. It is a chance to start over and drink in a new day.

Celebrating this holiday is one of my favorite things to do with my love. He has been with me for the last 17 New Year’s Eves and I can’t wait to spend every single one left from now until the day one of us passes away.
