Today saving money on your purchases is a given. Who pays full price any more, especially if you don’t have to? Whether you love to clip coupons, use discount codes, or shop the advertisements, saving money and being frugal in the home has become easier and easier.
There are so many ways to save money in the home. Here are a few of the ones that I use regularly:

-
Rediscover your Local Library: Support your public library for all of your favorite reads and books on audio. Plus some libraries offer movies on DVD to check out. Don’t forget about reading time for small children and other free activities too.
-
Discount Books and Magazines for eReaders: If you have an eReader, a tablet, or a reading app on your smartphone, you can find magazines and books for free or at a large discounted rate by searching through book apps, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, iBooks, IndieBooks and similar book sites. Also many offer PDF’s of books that you can download to your computer to read as well.
Alternately, if you love the print version still, as many of us do, create a swap group with your friends that love to read similar genre’s and create a swapping system to save money but still fulfill your reading pleasure.
-
Ditch the Disposable Products: You can save a boatload of cash by ditching the disposable products. Items like paper towels, napkins, and plates, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, freezer bags, sandwich bags, etc. are all throwaway items. Not only are they filling up the landfills, but you are literally throwing money out each time you buy and use these items.
Invest in machine washable napkins, reusable green dish towels, dish cloths, freezer containers, reusable lunch bags, and similar items so you can buy it once and use it over and over. The cost of savings on just this area is in the hundreds of dollars a year.
-
Stream Your Movies: Renting DVD’s is easy with a unit on every corner. But even that price can add up if you don’t get it back within the time allotted. And getting a movie through cable is expensive, too! Watch movies and your favorite shows by streaming to your TV and computer for a much cheaper price. With units like Roku, and online sites like Hulu, Netflix, IGLO, iReel, Crackle, Amazon and others. Pay one flat rate per month instead of per movie or in many cases, watch for free!
-
Ditch the Soda: Often unpopular, but you can make a big impact on your savings by ditching the soda and bottled drinks for filtered water, homemade tea and coffees. Use reusable travel cups and take it to go when on the road. Plus it saves on recycling plastic bottles and cans too. A plus for the environment
