Are you tired of buying the same things over and over again each week at the store, spending money and making extra trips to restock the same few things?

I’m talking about things we all use on a daily basis, things we tend to run out of quickly, that don’t expire quickly if at all.

Veteran shoppers know how to avoid multiple trips to the store each week and get around paying too much money for those items we all tend to use all the time:

They buy them in bulk, especially at warehouse clubs like Sam’s Club and Costco.

Buying in bulk can be a nice way to save a good chunk of money, but you have to know what to buy in large quantities and what to stick to buying from the local supermarket or dollar store.

There are some things you’ll be better off not buying in bulk, and there are some things you should always buy in bulk when you can.

Here are 9 things that are almost always worth buying in bulk, particularly from warehouse clubs like Sam’s Club and Costco.

Batteries

Running out of batteries is the worst. It always happens when you need them the most, like when your favorite show is coming on and you need to change the channel fast, or on Christmas morning.

There’s really no reason not to buy batteries in bulk. They’ll last for years when stored at room temperature, and you can find some pretty good deals on batteries at warehouse clubs.

For example, Sam’s Club has a 48 pack of AA batteries for $17.98, while Walmart has a 24 pack for $9.97. At those prices, that’s around $1 saved for every 40 batteries you buy at Sam’s Club, and those savings add up when you’re buying batteries in bulk.

Enriched grains

Although whole grains may not have the longest shelf life, enriched grains sure do. In fact, uncooked white rice will practically last forever so feel free to stock up.

Walmart has a 20 lb. bag of white rice for $8.92, while Sam’s Club has a 50 lb. bag for $13.53. That’s a savings of roughly 40%.

Soap

Soap is another item that will typically last for years without breaking down or becoming less effective. Bar soap will usually last for years, with the only real effect being it might get dried out or start to crack.

Walmart’s 10 count of bar soap is around $4.88, while Sam’s Club has a 22 count of the same soap for $8.58. That’s about 20% off the price.

Toothpaste

The lightbulb probably already went off in your head, but toothpaste is another item that’s great for buying in bulk. Basically anything you use on a daily basis that doesn’t have an expiration date in site is a prime warehouse club item, and toothpaste falls right in the middle of that category.

Of course, it doesn’t hurt that you’ll also save even more money by purchasing toothpaste at stores like Sam’s Club and Costco.

Walmart has a 5.1 oz container of Crest Pro Health for $3.75, and Sam’s Club has a 4-pack of 7 oz containers of Crest Pro Health for $11.98. If you do the math on that, that’s over 50% off. It’s hard to tell if they’re the exact same Crest Pro Health or not just by looking at the label, but you get the point.

Trash Bags

Trash bags are another item that falls in the category of items you use regularly that never expire. Plus not having a replacement bag for the garbage can be a real headache. You’ll forget all about the bag not being in there, and you’ll toss in more trash without even thinking about it. Then you have to dig the trash out with your hands.

Don’t do that. Do yourself a favor and buy trash bags in bulk.

Walmart sells a 100 pack for $12.52, while Sam’s Club sells a 200 pack for $13.48. That’s a no-brainer.

Light Bulbs

Oh you know how frustrating it is to run out of light bulbs. Stuck sitting in the dark, fumbling around for a flashlight to navigate your way through your bedroom until you can go to the store to get more light bulbs. Better hope you stocked up on those batteries we talked about earlier!

That doesn’t have to be you.

Light bulbs vary a lot, but a single 6w LED light bulb from Walmart could cost you around $4 a piece. However, if you buy a 3 pack of a similar 6w LED bulb from a warehouse club like Sam’s Club, you could pay more like $7-8.

Pet Food

If you have a pet, then you know they can run through food. So why not buy a huge bag of food for them to eat on for weeks? You can get a 15.5 lb bag of dog food at Walmart for $12.99. Meanwhile, you can get a 44 lb bag for just $33.58 at Sam’s Club. That’s roughly 10% off, making warehouse clubs a better place to feed a hungry pet.

Laundry detergent

Mom’s know laundry is like taxes - it’s unavoidable. So if you know you’re going to be doing laundry every week for the rest of your life, why not stock up on laundry detergent.

While laundry detergent doesn’t last “forever” like some of the other items on this list, it will usually last up to a year. If you’re like most families, you’ll use a LOT of laundry detergent in a year, so fill the laundry cabinet!

Walmart’s 42 count container of laundry detergent pods costs $10.77, and Sam’s Club has a 120 count container of laundry detergent pods for only $24.98. That’s 20% you get to keep.

Office Supplies

This is another good one most people forget about. Think about how much you use office supplies: paper, pens, pencils, markers, highlighters, folders, binders, etc. Kids need them to play with, students need them for school, and adults need them for work. Even in a digital age, you just can’t get away from office (and school) supplies. And warehouse clubs are just the place to buy them in bulk so you always have what you need on-hand.

For example, a 2,500 pack of multipurpose paper at Walmart could cost around $20, while a 5,000 pack of similar copy paper at Sam’s Club costs around $30. I’ll take that roughly 25% savings. Of course, office supplies vary a good bit, but generally speaking you’ll usually get a better deal buying larger quantities of office and school supplies from a warehouse club.
