Tired Of Missing Packages? Arlo's Security Cameras Help Catch Porch Pirates.

Arlo security cameras offer peace of mind and convenient features
Updated January 2, 2018

As the internet of things continues to seep into all facets of our lives, we’re more connected than ever. Your house can truly be smart and brands are rushing to help you connect your house. NETGEAR, a company known for their consumer routers and networking equipment, jumped on the smart home ship with their home automation brand, Arlo.

Even when you’re on the other side of the world, you can keep a close eye on your house. Using Arlo’s sleek and intuitive camera system, you can watch a live HD video feed while a potential burglar sizes up your house.

Have eyes everywhere

Whether you want to monitor your front door, sleeping baby, or vacation house, Arlo has a camera for you. To meet your specific security needs, Arlo offers six total cameras across four main categories:

  1. Wire-free for placement anywhere with a WiFi connection, indoors or outdoors
  2. Mobile for placement anywhere with an LTE network connection
  3. Powered indoor cameras for 24/7 security
  4. Baby monitor with lullaby player, night light, rechargeable battery, and air sensors.

The cameras host a number of premium features including night vision, 2-way audio (to chat with intruders), and advanced motion detection. The wire-free and mobile cameras are completely weatherproof and boast a 4-6 month rechargeable battery life. Every camera comes with their free Basic cloud recording plan: 7 days of recordings for up to five cameras. Should you need more memory, the company offers a number of more robust subscription plans, for both home and business customers.

Convenient and useful software

Nowadays people expect consumer technology to be easy to use right out of the box. Arlo’s line of cameras and the accompanying mobile app allow for quick set up whether you have one, or 5, cameras. With the app, you can flip through the different camera feeds and maintain alert settings, controlling when the camera is 'armed' and sends you notifications.

The camera systems also integrates with other smart home devices through IFTTT. For example, you can turn on Philips Hue lights when Arlo detects motion. While you can always monitor your camera feed from the mobile app, if you have an Amazon Echo Show, you can use your voice to pull up specific camera feeds.

Keeping the community safe

Recognizing that a house is only as safe as its community, the company created Arlo Cares, an initiative to bring communities together. They partner with nonprofits and public safety officials to "design a safer and more secure place for families, friends, neighbors, and colleagues to work and live in".

They also encourage owners to share their favorite Arlo moments on social media with #CaughtOnArlo. Searching the hashtag across major social networks shows entertaining, real-world examples of porch pirates, trash pandas, and cat burglars caught in the act.
