Every few years, a new generation of iPad is unveiled – and upon its release, a flood of new protective cases and tablet shells hits the market.
Because the price and quality range for these cases is incredibly vast, it can be overwhelming for the average consumer to find a product that adequately suits their needs.
Dealspotr looked across the internet to find the iPad case that offers the best combination of value and quality. The CaseCrown Omni Case for iPad Air 2 stands out as the leader in the under-$20 iPad case market segment, beating out a handful of lesser competitors.
The folio-style Omni is currently listed at just $16.05 on Amazon and is available from Ebay for $20.00. The case can also be purchased at the manufacturer’s site, CaseCrown.com, although it is more expensive at $30.00 (there is a 25% off promo code available).
The current list price of the CaseCrown Omni Case is far below that of the industry-leading Apple Smart Case, despite providing a comparable level of defense for your iPad Air 2 tablet.
The Omni Case offers superior protection versus similarly-priced folio cases; instead of having a large gap along the bottom of the device, the Omni Case adds extra protection with plastic strips between each port opening.
In addition to its excellent value and high level of protection, this case stands out from other budget-minded folio-style protectors because of its extremely slim profile.
The WireCutter’s reviewer Nick Guy claims the Omni is one of the thinnest folio cases he has ever come across. It measures a scant 10.4 mm when the Apple tablet is inside.
The Omni Case consists of a sturdy plastic shell that is attached to a faux-carbon fiber lid. Most folio-style tablet cases are divided into three sections, but CaseCrown has opted for four sections with the Omni.
Tech blog HiConsumption echoes The WireCutter’s sentiments, praising the slim profile of the tablet case and the manner in which it “hugs the curves” of the iPad Air 2.
Their reviewer also notes the case’s rugged durability – a very desirable trait for an item tasked with protecting your $600 device.
Some low-priced iPad cases never seem to properly fit or have components that do not function as intended. That is not the case with the Omni; both the plastic shell and magnetized fiber lid remain firmly secure at all times.
The WireCutter’s review points out a few downsides that come with this extremely low-priced iPad Air 2 case. Their reviewer explains that it simply does not feel as “nice” as the higher-end Apple Smart Case. He goes on to state that this is a result of the construction materials – the Smart Case is made from genuine leather while the Omni consists of plastic and faux-carbon-fibers.
And though it has a very slim profile, it is a bit heavier than more-expensive folio cases. For example, the Omni Case weighs 47 grams more than Apple’s product.
Another issue identified with the Omni is its lack of protection for the iPad Air 2’s buttons.
