Like so many others, Desirae was driven to join the couponing community upon the birth of her son several years ago. Realizing the financial demands of raising a child while living paycheck-to-paycheck with her husband was enough to make her take up extreme couponing
Fast forward to 2015 and Desirae is an accomplished coupon blogger (ExtremeSavingsWithDivaDesirae.com), budding YouTube star and renowned deal hunter, who appeared on TLC’s “Extreme Couponing”. How did she become so successful with couponing? Read the Q&A we did wih her to find out:
A: I have been couponing for 8 years now.
A: The reason I started couponing is because we were living in a 1 bedroom apartment, my husband was in college working 2 jobs, and I was pregnant with our first child. We were living off maybe $20 every 2 weeks and I remember being really depressed. I started to figure out how I could bring us income in or save money. Thats when I came across couponing online.
A: I have had my blog for 6 years now. Its been through different stages and continues to grow and change daily.
A: I started blogging because a lot of my friends wanted to know how to coupon and wanted to see my deals. I just started a small blog for my friends and it quickly grew.
A: I love getting stuff that I use every single day for free! Not paying for toilet paper, razors, shampoo etc. for years has been the best thing. I love spending maybe $100 a month on groceries.
A: Target is my go-to store! I have alway loved this store and will. They don’t call me a Target addict for nothing.
A: My biggest advice would be to start slow. Don’t rush into this at all or you will fail. Educate yourself as much as you can, you can never have enough information. Don’t chase every single deal and run to every store.
A: The biggest challenge we face is other couponers. Some people have to be stingy and take every single deal, run to every store and clear all the shelves.
A: Honestly? Down hill and it’s scary. So many people are taking advantage of coupons and ruining it for a lot of us. I believe these companies will try to get rid of them period.
A: Remember you are saving money for your family, no one else. Don’t worry if you can’t catch every single day. Only buy things that your family will use, don’t waste your money on things you won’t use or buy.
