Like many moms, Emily Graham loved sharing funny stories about her kids. She started out by doing so on Facebook. Her friends were so amused that they suggested she start a mommy blog. The idea didn’t take immediately, but after she had her third child, she decided to give it a shot. A few months later, Just Playing House was born and it is now rapidly growing on a monthly basis.

Learn more about Graham’s blogging adventure and how she has evolved as a mommy blogger by reading the following Q&A:

Q: What are your favorite topics to blog about?

A: My kids are a huge inspiration. They are the source of most of the chaos and craziness in my life. I enjoy being able to laugh at it all! Otherwise, I write about my passions. DIY projects that help make our house a home. Fun and easy activities anyone can do with their kids to promote family time.

Q: How long have you had your blog?

A: July 2015

Q: What’s the most interesting reader interaction you’ve ever had?

A: I use sarcasm quite a bit! It’s a great way to deal with the mundane. I had someone take a post very literally and try to offer advice. They definitely thought I was the worst parent ever!!

Q: What prompted you to get started with blogging?

A: I was always sharing stories about my kids and the crazy things that happen around my house on Facebook. People started telling me I needed to write a book or start a blog. After the birth of my 3rd baby, I decided to give it a shot.

Q: What do you like most about blogging?

A: It’s a great outlet for all of the stuff floating around in my head. I enjoy being able to share our lives.

Q: What advice would you give to an aspiring blogger?

A: Go for it! Do some research first, especially if you are going to blog for more than just your family. There is a lot to learn! The best advice I can give though is to just do it. Don’t wait until everything is perfect to launch. You can (and will) tweak as you go. The most important thing is to drive good content that fits your theme/focus.

Q: Which post have you had the most fun writing?

A: Probably my Halloween Party parenting fail. I sent my daughter to school with her Halloween costume on. It was the wrong day for her party. She was so angry when I picked her up because she was the only one dressed up. I had so much feedback from that post! People really enjoyed reading it and said they actually laughed out loud.

Q: What is the biggest challenge to being a blogger?

A: Constantly churning out good quality content. I try to post every day. There are days I have so many other things going on that I don’t meet that goal. I do my best to plan out my content in advance. It’s definitely a challenge.

Q: Who are some of your blogging inspirations?

A: There are so many blogs I enjoy reading, following, and learning from. Two that really stand out right now are:

Chrissy @ Licensed to Muse is hysterical! She’s new to blogging (like me), but I love reading her stuff. I am hoping her ability to tell a great story rubs off on me.

Lisa @ Fun Money Mom has a great blog and has built a strong following. Her story is similar to mine so I love to watch her success.
