At this point, pretty much every holiday weekend is good for shopping. But different times of the year mean different sales, so I’m going to give you a rundown of what types of sales to be on the lookout for this weekend for your post-July-Fourth shopping.

Clothing

July Fourth is when retailers start trying to get rid of summer clothes, so plan on grabbing a new swimsuit or some shorts or dresses. This may seem surprising for the uninitiated (Getting rid of summer clothes when we still have two months left until fall? Madness!) but retail seasons are generally way ahead of actual calendar seasons. People tend to buy their bikinis and tank tops in the months leading up to summer so they can enjoy them the entire season. So by the time the Fourth of July rolls around, retail stores expect you to have already bought all your summer stuff, which is why they try to lure you in to buy more summer stuff … at highly discounted prices.

Fourth of July themed stuff

This one is, well … completely obvious, but it’s a good one to keep in mind anyway. Anything Fourth of July-related that you had your eye on can be had at hugely discounted prices as early as the day after the holiday. So if you happen to be having your family cookout on Saturday instead of the Fourth itself, you might be able to find some really good deals on decorations, fireworks, patriotic clothing and more! Of course, if you’re taking our advice on saving money while hosting a cookout, you won’t be buying any of those things anyway, but that’s up to you.

Outdoor furniture

July is one of the best times of the year to buy any furniture, and outdoor furniture is an especially attractive option around the Fourth of July. Stores often play on top-of-mind products, and what are you sitting on at your cousin’s house during their July Fourth cookout? That’s right, their patio furniture, which is looking a lot nicer than yours, isn’t it? Kinda makes you want to upgrade, doesn’t it? That’s where the deals come in! Check out home improvement stores and furniture stores alike for excellent prices.

General sales

Retailers have also started to have general Fourth of July sales pretty regularly in the past few years, so this is a good time to buy all those things you’ve been waiting on from major retailers – especially online. If there’s something you’ve been wanting to buy from a large website / retail store, check in on it. A lot of online retailers are offering free shipping right now – some with minimum purchases, some without – and some are even offering sitewide discounts. It’s pretty much retail 101 to have a Fourth of July sale, so you can pretty much expect to see a sale at any major retailer you visit. Things like appliances, grills and electronics certainly aren’t at their cheapest right now, but any discount is better than no discount, so make sure you look for a sale first.
