I flipped through the latest issue of Real Simple today, and learned an interesting fact: H&M will take your unwanted clothes and give you a free 15% off one item coupon in exchange. It doesn't matter what condition your clothes are in, so you can take the clothes that won't cut it at Goodwill and turn those in.

It's a global initiative for H&M that's aimed at curbing textile waste. According to H&M, "Every year tonnes of textiles are thrown out with domestic waste and end up in landfill. As much as 95 percent of these clothes could be used again; re-worn, reused or recycled - depending on the state of the garment."

I called up my local H&M to confirm the policy. The H&M representative told me that you can bring in two bags per visit for one coupon, and you can bring in bags as many times as you want. It doesn't matter what condition the clothes are in; clothes will either be re-sold, recycled, or re-used.

If you want to continue the green trend and use your coupon on more eco-conscious items, try out H&M's new conscious partywear collection, which are all made from environmentally friendly material such as organic cotton, recycled polyamide and Tencel. (Images via Vogue UK.)
