You’ve made up your mind and determined that you want Verizon FiOS to provide your home internet, phone and television services.

Now, the key is to figure out how to get the best deal on FiOS. There are several factors to keep in mind as you move forward to get the price you want on this popular service.

Follow the tips listed below and you’ll be sure to land a good deal on Verizon FiOS.

Remember You Are Involved in a Negotiation

One of the most common mistakes customers make when they shop for Verizon FiOS services is that they go in with the wrong approach. Shopping for home communications services is a little more like shopping for a car than it is like shopping at a department store.

While there are some limits as to how much flexibility sales associates have when they discuss terms with you, they do possess a surprisng amount of leeway. An arms race of sorts has developed between the leading phone, cable and satellite companies and they are willing to bend quite a bit if it means acquiring a new customer. Use this to your advantage when talking with the sales associate and don’t be afraid to mention that you are considering going to their rivals if they can’t meet your demands.

Wait Until a Special That You Want Arrives

Verizon is almost always providing some sort of special deal or incentive to entice you to sign up for FiOS. The key is to be patient and wait until they have an offer available that really appeals to you. For example, if the latest special offer is to get a free tablet with a 24-month contract, but you already have a tablet and want a 12-month contract, then don’t go for it.

This tip goes hand-in-hand with the first tip on negotiating, because sales associates will often work with you to find the best special that suits your needs, or in some cases they may be able to let you know about an upcoming special that they know will be perfect for you, or figure out a way to give you a recently expired special.

Bundling is Usually Best

Verizon is no different than its competitors. It wants you to use all of its services, not just one or two. It is much better for Verizon as a company to have customers that use FiOS for phone, television and Internet than it is to have customers that only use it for one and use other providers for the other services.

This desire works to the consumer’s benefit, because Verizon is forced to provide exceptional bundle packages as an incentive to convince customers to go all-in with its services. Generally, the more services you get with Verizon, the best price you’ll get for each. One caveat to this is that Verizon is known for trying to add extra “value” to certain bundles and upselling its customers to things they don’t necessarily want or need such as premium television channels or multiple landlines. Don’t fall into the value trap.

Tap Into Customer Loyalty Programs

If you’ve long been a Verizon phone customer, then you can leverage that to your advantage. Verizon hates losing long-time customers to its competitors, so it will typically go above and beyond to keep them.

This is especially true of legacy landline phone customers. The landline business has been dwindling for years, yet it remains highly profitable for Verizon. Make sure to sweet talk the sales associate telling them how much you like Verizon and how long you’ve been a customer and how you’d hate to leave, and they might be able to work out something special for you.

Make Sure Verizon Offers Services Where You Live

While Verizon is one of the largest home communications service providers in the country, it still doesn’t reach everyone. FiOS is not available in certain areas and the last thing you want is to go through the whole negotiation process only to find out you can’t even get the product.

Always Pay Your Bill On Time

The more reliable a customer you are, the better chance you’ll have to renegotiate a better deal when you are up for renewal. If Verizon sees that you have constantly been late for payments or had payments get rejected, then they will be much less likely to offer you a nice special after your contract ends.
