Any parent will tell you that if it weren't for the diapers, they'd have a lot more spending cash. Trying to cut costs with a baby can seem like an exercise in futility, but there is hope for you - with a little planning, you can save a lot.

Last night, right before I headed to Target, I checked our mail, and noticed a flyer from Babies R Us. The diapers I wanted were on sale for a great price - 2 mega boxes for just $30! However, I didn't want to make two separate trips, so I took the flyer with me to Target, grabbed the diapers, and asked the cashier to assist me with price-matching.

3 Things You Should Know About Price-Matching:

  • Take the items you want to price-match to Guest Services. Cashiers at Target are not allowed to do the price-matching. It might be a pain, but I suggest you get the items you want to price-match first, and do the rest of your shopping afterwards.
  • Price-matching applies only if the ad's sale date is in effect. I wasn't able to purchase the diapers I wanted at the sale price because the ad will not go into effect until 7/5. (However, you can bet I'll be there first thing Friday.)
  • Read carefully - if you get the wrong size box, if it's a different brand, you will not be able to get the price-match deal. The item must be the same one as described in the ad.

3 More Ways To Get Additional Discounts On Your Price-Matched Item

  • The diapers I wanted were the Pampers brand. If you join the site, you'll get exclusive access to discounts and coupons. Before shopping, I printed out the coupons I wanted. (Caveat - printing the coupon requires a compatible browser.)

  • Use the Target REDCard. The Target REDCard gives you an automatic 5% off your purchases.
  • Bring reusable bags for your other purchases. You'll get an additional nickel off for every bag that you bring.

Total Savings: $23

At an original price of $24.99 per box, you can get 2 boxes for $30 with the price-matching deal. That's a savings of $10 per box. With the Pampers coupon, you'll save an additional $1.50, and then with the 5% Target REDCard discount, you'll save another $1.43, with the final price at $27.07, a total savings of almost $23 (not counting any reusable bags you bring) from the original price of $49.98.
