You could say couponing was in her genes. Kristy’s mom couponed her whole life. While she didn’t pursue couponing immediately, instead choosing to focus on getting a degree in criminal justice, she eventually continued the family tradition once her first child was born.
Seeing as how it’s the digital generation, it was only natural that she would turn her couponing habit into a blog appropriately named MyMommaTaughtMe.com. Her site provides daily coupon updates and matchups with a specific emphasis on her central New York roots.
Learn more about Kristy in the Q&A she recently did with Dealspotr:
Q: How long have you been couponing?
A: I have been couponing on a regular basis every since I had my first child over 7 years ago.
Q: Why did you start couponing?
A: I started couponing to save money! My mother had always couponed so once I started a family of my own I knew it was time for me to really save that money.
Q: How long have you had your blog?
A: I have had my blog for a little over 2 years now. I have been sharing deals for about 4 years though. I started out with just a Facebook Fan Page that grew into so much more.
Q: What prompted you to get started with blogging?
A: I started blogging so I could have a place to put all my coupon tips and information I worked so hard on. Before having my blog, I saved and shared everything in Google documents. My husband thought it was time for me to upgrade and bought my website for me as a Christmas gift one year.
Q: What do you like most about couponing?
A: If I had to choose one thing that I liked most about couponing, it would be the ability it has for us to help others. It has allowed me to be able to show others how to save money for their family as well as given me the actual products to give to others when they are in need.
Q: Where is your favorite place to shop with coupons?
A: My favorite place to shop with coupons would have to be my local grocery store, Tops Markets.
Q: What advice would you give to couponing newbies?
A: I would tell coupon newbies to take it slow and don’t compare what you get and save with others. Not every family is the same. Be proud of any savings you accomplish – big or small!
Q: What is the biggest challenge couponers face?
A: I think couponers feel like they have to live up to the hype of being extreme or you’re not doing it right. You don’t need to be extreme to be a couponer. Any money saved is a good thing in my book. Whether you save $5 a week or $50.
Q: Where do you see the future of couponing going?
A: It’s hard to say. I’ve seen a lot of changes throughout the years. I feel like store coupon policies will continue to get more strict, and we will see less and less great deals.
Q: Have any final thoughts?
A: I love couponing and everything that comes with it. I feel blessed that my mother taught me how to coupon and I am able to show tons of people each day how to coupon and save money for their families.
