BluePromoCode Investigates Consumer’s Desires for NFL merchandise

Just in time for the 2013-2014 NFL Season starting September 4, bluepromocode.com created a study to gauge what consumers shopping expectations would be for NFL apparel, tickets, and merchandise. Their study surveyed 125 NFL Fans and consumers with a core sports demographic in a randomized study. Key findings include:

  • Among current NFL QBs, Mark Sanchez’s jersey is the most embarrassing to wear in public and is expected to get the lowest resale price
  • Peyton Manning is the most desirable jersey
  • Among Rookies, Monte Ball is the most desirable jersey
  • The Browns NFL team is the most embarrassing apparel to wear in public
  • Most NFL Fans are willing to pay up to $99 for a game ticket

Spending Habits

51% of NFL Fans would spend up to $99 for a ticket to an NFL Game. Consumers could get better deals on their tickets at ticket brokers such as Razorgator, Ticketmaster, Ticket Liquidator, and ScoreBig.

Appeal of Players and Teams

38% of NFL Fans said Mark Sanchez would be the most embarrassing QB jersey to wear this season. Michael Vic was the top choice among non-fans. For team apparel, the Cleveland Browns are the most embarrassing at 25% of respondents and the Lions were a close second at 18%.

Buying and Selling Expectations

Once again Mark Sanchez tops the list, where our results indicate that his jersey would sell for the least amount of money. It also means if you’re a fan, you should be able to find some good deals. On the opposite end, Peyton Manning lead the survey as the most desirable jersey at 21%, well ahead of all other QBs. Expect deals on his jersey to be a little harder to find. Finally, for the NFL rookies, there was a tie for Monte Ball and Eddie Lacy. Both are players at superbowl-contending teams so it’s no surprise to see them at the top of our survey. Consumers can find coupons for all of these players and teams at the official NFL Shop or individual team stores

Survey Methodology

In July 2013, Zipfworks commissioned a study to analyze consumer demand for NFL apparel and tickets. Zipfworks surveyed 125 U.S.-based consumers with a sports demographic in a quantitative study with SurveyMonkey. Questions were randomized and related to their specific player interests and price thresholds for NFL products for the 2013-2014 NFL season. Participants were provided gift cards and other non-cash incentives for their participation.
