BluePromoCode Investigates Consumer’s Trends for Wedding Season
Fall wedding season is here! To help couples gauge the latest wedding spending trends and expectations, bluepromocode.com surveyed 100 married couples under the age of 35 and asked them if they were to get married TODAY, what would their shopping behavior be like?
Key findings include:
- 45% would spend less than $2,500 for an engagement ring (men expected to spend slightly more)
- 38% would spend less than $10,000 for their wedding (excluding the honeymoon)
- 41% expect each of their wedding guests to bring a $50-$100 gift
- Target and Bed, Bath, & Beyond are by far the most popular wedding registries
- Only 30% of married couples created their own wedding website
- Women would much prefer to get married in a church, but to ATTEND a wedding on a beach
What to do with Wedding Gifts of Cash?
Men and women have different viewpoints on what to do with their wedding cash. Our survey shows that women would prefer to spend it on their Honeymoon while men prefer to save it or use it to pay down their debt. In either case, couples should look for online coupons whenever possible to help them maximize their savings.

How Much Should I Spend on an Engagement Ring?
In a surprisingly low result, a high 45% would spend less than $2,500 on an engagement ring. This is far lower than the $5,130 national average reported by a survey completed by The Knot and WeddingChannel.com in 2012. Men had slightly higher expectations, but an overall much lower number possibly stemming from the continued economic uncertainty.

Wedding & Honeymoon Expenses
Our survey shows that most couples modern would expect to spend under $30,000 for their wedding with the majority opting for under $10,000. This seems to fall in line with spending less on an engagement ring as well as Americans become more frugal. In terms of wedding gifts, most couples expect $100 or less. For a ceremony of 100 guests, couples expect to receive about half of their wedding expense in gift value in return.

What’s the Most Popular Wedding Venue?
A traditional church remains the most popular venue for modern wedding couples, however a beach is the most popular venue for women that ATTEND a wedding. Beach venues may be more expense for many as they’re destination weddings for those in middle-America which would help explain the difference.

What are the Most Popular Wedding Registries?
Target and Bed, Bath, & Beyond were the clear winners for wedding registries collecting a whopping 53% of the total votes. Online services have been slow to gain popularity for registries as Amazon.com only had 7% response rate and GiftRegistries360.com and Depositagift.com were at the very bottom of the list.

Do Couples Create Wedding Website?
Despite our survey targeting modern and younger married couples under 35, only 30% developed a personal website for their wedding. These are easy to set up using sites such as WeddingWire, MyWedding, or WeddingWindow

Zipfworks surveyed 100 U.S.-based consumers who are married and under 35 years old in a quantitative study with SurveyMonkey. Questions were randomized and related to their specific spending and interest habits for weddings and weddings-related services. Participants were provided gift cards and other non-cash incentives for their participation.
