The emergence of electric skateboards has brought a whole generation back to the form of travel, with many using the excuse that they are “going green” as a thinly veiled excuse to have some fun on a skateboard.
I am a huge fan of electric skateboards. Unsurprisingly I am just as bad at riding them as riding regular skateboards, but that is beside the point.
The real question is, what is the best electric skateboard?
Well, this all depends on what you plan on using your skateboard for and how experienced you are. This article analyzes the top five electric skateboards available today to help you pick the right one for you.
Top 5 Best Electric Skateboards
Meepo

Via: Amazon
Meepo, from $499
First up, we’ve got the Meepo electric skateboard. If you are relatively new to electric skateboarding or skateboarding in general, the Meepo board is an excellent option for you.
These boards are more budget-friendly than other brands, yet they still provide excellent designs specifications and performance for the money you pay.
Due to the large deck, this board creates an excellent foundation for any novice skaters. However, it can still reach impressive speeds, maxing out at 29mph.
Halo Board

Halo Board, $997
If you fancy yourself as an advanced skater, or you’re willing to make a fool of yourself until that statement is true, you may want to check out the Halo Board 2nd Edition.
You’ll notice that is board is almost double the price of the Meepo board we just talked about, but that is because it is more advanced.
The board is entirely carbon fiber, for starters, making it extremely light and durable. It also has a smaller deck, making it easier to carve through the streets if you’re up to the challenge.
Skatebolt

Skatebolt S5 Miniboard, $160 (refurbished)
If you are a relatively experienced skateboarder but on a budget, the Skatebolt S5 Miniboard is an excellent option.
Don’t be mistaken by its size, though; this little guy still packs a pretty mean punch. It tops out at 16mph and can handle hills with a 10% gradient.
While it isn’t the highest performing electric skateboard on the market, it is an excellent choice for experienced skates with a limit on what they can afford.
Backfire Boards

Via: Electric Bike Paradise
Backfire Zealot S Belt Drive, $999
Some electric skateboards can reach up to 30mph. That’s faster than my nan drives.
When hurtling down the road at 30mph, you’re going to want some brakes. That is where electric skateboard remote controllers come in.
The Backfire Zealot S Belt Drive remote control allows you to increase the power, decrease it, or even turn it off completely. It puts you in complete control of your speed, so you can slam the brakes on when you see your nan drifting across into your lane.
I hope she doesn’t read this.
Linky

Via: Electric Skateboard Builder
Linky, $650
Electric skateboards are one of the best and most enjoyable ways to commute to and from work. But they aren’t always the most practical. Some boards are longer than standard skateboards due to the motor and other technical reasons.
Until Linky came along and flipped the industry on its head (or folded it in half?)
Anyway, the Linky foldable board changed the game and made electric skateboarding into work a viable option.
