We’re deep in the heart of the summer barbecue season right now. And if you’re throwing one soon, you certainly want it to be a memorable experience. As much as you’d love to get there with just your meat and your guest list, there’s no shame in leaning on one more tool in your arsenal: Gimmicks, and plenty of ‘em.

Cooking meat by putting it on a grill is so old-fashioned. Why not turn your grill into a full-on rotisserie — in a very eye-catching way? The Rib-O-Lator fits right into your grill so you can rotisserie any food (and four foods at a time). The Rib-O-Lator people sell different sizes to fit lots of different grills, and even a cordless motor so you don’t have to do your own spinning.
Grillbot Black at Grillbots, $100
Why just use a Roomba for your house when you can also use one for your grill. But not an actual Roomba, that wouldn’t work at all. Please don’t try it. The Grillbot, however, is made for robotic grill cleaning. It even works if the grill is hot (up to 250 degrees) because what this world needs is an army of fire-resistant robots.
Sport Solar Oven at GoSun, $219
Next time someone asks if you use gas or charcoal, you can drop: “Neither. Sun.” GoSun makes “solar ovens” that can bake, roast, or steam foods through only the power of the sun. It works when it’s cloudy (although not at night) and can cook a meal in 20 minutes.
Slotdog at Lowe’s, $19
Here’s a product that solves problems you never realized you had. The Slotdog cuts a hot dog into a pattern of interconnected diagonal squares. That allows for more even cooking, better flavor, and even nicer gaps for putting your condiments on the dog itself rather than the bun. Who knew there was so much room to grow when it came to hot dogs?
GrillGun Basic at GrillBlazer.com, $172
Turn the lighting of your grill into a ritual straight out of Rambo. The GrillGun from GrillBlazer lights your charcoal or wood grill — and gets it hot fast. You can also use it to sear meat if simply lighting your grill with the GrillGun isn’t enough action.
